Naming this northwest United Methodist location isn’t enough: please provide a link to the image in Bing Maps. Thanks!
Hint: This Methodist site is in a state park.
Is this a former Methodist site? Didn’t there used to be a UM Camp down by Dayton, WA somewhere?
Answer to #1: yes. Answer to #2: could be, but not this site. First Methodists there probably camped, though.
Could this be the old Epworth Heights in the Redondo area?
Susan: nope, not a church camp. Think really old (for Methodism in the northwest, that is).
•First Protestant Church (Methodist Episcopal) North of the Columbia River — Steilacoom
The Methodist Episcopal Church was organized and held services on August 28, 1853. The building was constructed in March 1854. The upper story was used for church purposes and the lower floor was used for a school and gathering place for social and political activities. (I’m looking at websites for the address/location.)
Too recent! 😉
My mind wanders (a lot!) to the Whitman Mission but they were Presbyterians.
Question….you say Northwest….does this include Oregon?
Willamette Mission State Park – Oregon
Willamette Mission is one of the most significant and beautiful historic sites in the Willamette Valley. The park occupies land where the first mission for American Indians was founded in 1834 by the Reverend Jason Lee. Members of the Methodist Mission were later active in the formation of Oregon government. A monument is located in the park providing information on this settlement. The original mission buildings are represented by framed outlines called ghost structures. A landing for the Wheatland Ferry — the first to carry the covered wagon across the Willamette River in 1844 — is in the park.

Susan, that link gives me an aerial view of Redmond, WA, but with a map pin stuck in the middle of a farm near Salem, OR … what we need is a link that’ll take a perso to the view that appears in the picture above. (But I think you’ve probably found it.) I find that switching to Bing’s “classic view” (lower right) works better for navigating and selecting specific shots. And then clicking “share your map” (lower left, envelope icon) when you’ve found the right view, seems to give you a link that zooms anyone to the right place.
Will I receive a prize if I figure that out? Redmond!! I clicked on Willamette Mission State Park in Oregon. How very odd.
That was pretty tricky.
